Welcome Rotarians! My name is Jason Gehrke. Thanks to the generosity of Rotary Club District 6270, I am the 2016-2017 Global Scholar in the area of Peace and Conflict Resolution. My research focuses on the relationship between religion, ethics and politics; and here I am taking a hard look at human rights within the sphere of both ancient and modern inter-religious dialogue. We all know the old saying that there’s two things we don’t talk about at dinner – religion and politics. Well, it just so happens, I’m working on both, together!
With your support, I am completing my doctoral research at Strasbourg University, France. Strasbourg is a perfect place to finish this project. It is the capital city of the Alsace region. This beautiful city is often called, now, the capital of Europe. It is home to the European Court of Human Rights, the European Parliament, and of course, one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. Because of Strasbourg’s unique place in the European context, the university boasts a thriving inter-disciplinary atmosphere. Throughout the year, I’ll post updates on my studies, activities, and travels. I’ll hope you’ll send me questions and/or comments along the way!
Once again, thank you so much for the generous support of the Rotary Foundation!
